Omsk State Medical University was founded in 1920 as the medical faculty of the Siberian Institute of Veterinary Medicine and Zoology and reorganized in 1921 as the West Siberian State Medical Institute. (OSMU Russia) is the medical school of Russia. The university was renamed OSMU in 1925 and OSMA in 1994.

This medical university has 59 departments. 73% of all employees have a university degree. The OSMU has consistently been ranked in the top 100 universities in Russia. The OSMU Academy has received Level IV recognition. In 2015 the academy received university status.
