ST. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University Introduction

Saint Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University, previously known as St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University, is a renowned medical university in Russia that offers medical education in pediatrics. The university is located in St. Petersburg and has a license to provide training in the English language. It is the oldest and most prestigious university for pediatric medical education in Russia, formerly known as Leningrad Pediatric Medical Institute.

The university was founded in 1925 with the aim of reducing maternal and infant morbidity and mortality. The City’s Children Hospital was established in 1905 with a motive to restrict the spread of infectious diseases. It had 650 beds and was staffed by 28 Ephesians, paramedics, 238 nurses, and other staff members.

The main building of the St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University was constructed on the hospital’s territory. During the Russian Civil War, the hospital was forgotten, but it provided a home for a large number of orphan children after the war. This led to more funding from the authorities, and in 1925, the Scientific-Practical Institute of Maternity and Infancy Protection, named after Clara Zetkin, opened. The institute’s structure was then refurbished and included many more facilities and departments.

The Pediatric University of St. Petersburg is the oldest university dedicated to pediatrics in the world. Since its foundation, the university has focused on the treatment and care of children. Currently, St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University has over 60 departments, 50 faculties, and performs more than 15,000 modern operations per year. The university has helped almost 100,000 children from all over Russia to regain their health and well-being.

St. Petersburg’s pediatricians shared their scientific discoveries and experience with their colleagues at the annual All-Russian Congress called “Healthy Children – the Future of the Country” in May 2017. During the event, two hundred reports were presented in 36 different sections and 4 round tables, and over 2,000 guests from 15 countries participated in scientific discussions.
